Archive By Alexa – Vintage On The High Street

Here’s a statement that probably won’t surprise you: we love Alexa Chung. Who doesn’t? A timeless fashionista with a cracking sense of humour, she’s been one of our go-to girls for style inspiration for a very long time.

Whilst we’re normally all about the real deal when it comes to vintage, we embrace any opportunity to bring retro styles to the masses. Which is why we did a little squeal when we heard all about Alexa’s ‘Archive By Alexa’ collaboration with high-street giants Marks & Spencer – a capsule collection based around some of the brand’s most classic styles and prints from the last eight decades.

Founded in our very hometown of Leeds in 1884, M&S has been a stalwart of British wardrobes for decades, but only recently has it become fashionable again with a younger audience through trend-led collections – think 70s knitwear, jumpsuits and strong paisley prints. With Alexa’s new line, they once again solidify themselves as a go-to brand for quality and comfort – and who knows, maybe we’ll be selling these designs at our fairs in 30 years time!

Hello Yellow!

Fest-Envy – Vintage Style at Glastonbury!

We’re heaving a collective sigh of jealousy at Judy HQ this week – we’re not off to Glastonbury! Although we have a very exciting summer of festival ahead of us with Beatherder and Festival No.6 (more info here!), we can’t help but lust for those rolling pilton hills and a line-up that reads like a who’s who of music industry.

In recent years, Glastonbury has also become synonymous with some of the world’s best street style. Vintage is a great option for festivalwear – it is often much more hardwearing than modern clothing, will make you stand out in a crowd and can be customised to your hearts content without breaking your budget. If you’re still hurriedly packing our bags before heading off to Somerset, take note from some of our favourite celebrity Glasto looks that can be easily achieved with a bit of vintage!

Golden Girls

paloma faith beyonce kate moss glastonbury fashionWhile looking as flawless as Paloma or Beyonce may seem a little unachievable after a few nights in a tent, glitter is an absolute must at Glastonbury. Lamé, sequin or lurex garment are easily found at vintage fairs and look great as a statement piece over darker shorts or tees, adding a little glamour to the muddy fields.

Earth Child

With it’s hippy connotations and blissed-out vibes, Glastonbury is the perfect place to get your free love on. Florence, Laura and Lana display just a few of the ways to channel 60s/70s folklore – the key is all in the pattern. Pick one bold minidress, kimono or shirt in a floaty cotton for easy wearability and light packing – you’ll thank us later when you have much more space for all those tinned gins!

Simply Does It

if you don’t fancy going all out at Glastonbury, there are plenty of ways to dress simply while still making a nod to retro. Whether it’s a pretty 50s blouse like Emma’s, 70s leather ‘n’ breton combo like Alexa or 90s oversized tee and round sunnies like Ella, these looks are all maintenance but still make an impact. Just remember to add a pop of luxury – a gold chain, patterned belt or perhaps even a gorgeous vintage handbag like Alexa’s (a girl can dream…)

What outfits are you planning on rocking this festival season? Don’t forget to share your looks with us on instagram @judysvintagefair – we love sharing our favourites.
