Vintage Street Style At The Kilo Sale

Screen Shot 2016-01-27 at 10.42.03Forget Vogue and forget Stylecaster – this month we’ve been getting out kicks out of our customers. No, we’re not talking Valentine’s just yet – we’re talking street style. It goes without saying that our vintage shoppers know their onions, but we’ve been thoroughly enjoying how effortlessly you spruce up to pop along to our fairs, kilos and fleas. Mannequins are well and truly over – what better inspiration for your next vintage buy than seeing a great look on a real-life walking and talking fashionista?

At our Bristol and Bethnal kilos, we were joined by two lovely photographers (Tegan Woods and Jordan-Jennings O’Toole respectively), who papped till they could pap no more. With poses that would make Tyra proud, here are some of our faves. Looking for further inspo? Check out our Pinterest gallery which we will be adding to weekly, or our Instagram page for daily style tips.

David Bowie – A Fashion and Music Legacy

Like the rest of the world, we at Judy HQ were shocked and saddened when we awoke on Monday morning to news that we had lost David Bowie to an 18-month battle with liver cancer. A star who really does need no introduction, what he has given to the world of music over the years is almost intangible, shaping the world’s outlook on topics as big as space exploration, gender and sexuality.

A huge part of this was Bowie’s approach to fashion. Constantly pushing boundaries and predicting trends decades before they came about, his dalliances with colour, shape and style have inspired both low and high fashion worldwide. We’re all familiar with his ‘classic characters’ – Ziggy Stardust, The Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane, Labyrinth’s Goblin King – but less emphasis is placed on his more ‘wearable’ looks – smart tailoring, coloured hair, womenswear-as-menswear and vice versa. These are all looks we covet from our designers, our high-street stores and our vintage traders too, proof that David Bowie’s legacy will live on long after us all.

He’s with us every time we daub glitter on our faces for a party, every time we pair a frilly blouse with an androgynous suit, and every time we fall in love with an ‘out there’ outfit that it seems nobody else would wear. His attitude to fashion, music and life is an inspiration to our work at all three of our brands, and a hopeful reminder to all of his loved ones and fans that being yourself is the absolute best thing you can be. RIP David Bowie, you will be missed.

Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair
With an ethos of affordability, the formula for the fairs is a simple one; gather premiere vintage traders from all over the UK, check them for affordable, eclectic vintage stock and gather them together, if just for a day. 10 years and 30 cities later, affordable vintage fashion remains at the heart at what we do. From 20s beading to 80s brights, 60s shifts to 50s florals, our fairs, markets and kilo sales provide an affordable go-to place for anyone to shop old-world, be ye vintage veteran or not.

The Vintage Kilo Sale

With a fresh new look for 2016, the kilo sale is a mecca for thrifty fans, crafty customisers and street style fanatics. The first and last place to get a whole new wardrobe by weight – just £15 per kilogram, to be exact. Founded in 2009 in conjunction with Europe’s largest wholesaler Glass Onion, we pitch up at eclectic venues all over the country, bringing with us up to five tonnes of vintage and retro clothing from the 1960s-1990s. Rummage our tubs and rails, try items on, and think outside the box – you never know what you might fall in love with.
